Project
Program for the Reproductive Management of Endangered Species

The purpose of the Program is to strengthen wild populations of threatened species through individuals born within the framework of the ex situ breeding actions on Ecoparque. The ex situ component is understood as the breeding and management of populations outside their natural distribution area and under human care. These types of actions will be complementary to those carried out within the distribution area of the species object of conservation, called in situ.
The management of each of these species will be framed in specific programs and/or projects, and the actions to be developed will be linked to this program. In this sense, the Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus) Conservation Program (PCCA), the Chaco Herpetofauna Research and Conservation Program (PICHeC); the Tapir (Tapirus terrestris) Conservation Program; the Red and Green Macaw (Ara chloropterus) Conservation Program; the Apipé Snail Conservation Program (Aylacostoma spp); the Program for the Research and Conservation of Endangered Amphibians, the Program for the Conservation and Breeding of the Yellow Cardinal (Gubernatrix cristata) and the Cracid’s Conservation Program are some of the programs that are framed, in general terms, in the aforementioned program.
Through this Program we seek to:
Deepen the development of scientific research in the field of reproductive physiology of threatened wildlife.
Develop, apply, strengthen and accompany strategies and population management plans for threatened wild species.
Cryopreservation of genetic material representative of the existing biodiversity of wild species, mainly those native and threatened.
In addition, it includes the development of the Reproductive Biotechnology Area for the Conservation of Wild Fauna and the Genetic Resources Bank, which currently stores more than seven thousand four hundred (7400) samples belonging to five hundred and fifty (550) individuals corresponding to ninety-eight (98) different species of wild fauna, in order to generate a reservoir of genetic diversity with emphasis on the native fauna of the region, which contributes to its perpetuation over time for future conservation; as well as to develop and promote reproduction techniques applied to conservation.
Through this Program we seek to:
Cryopreserve the existing biodiversity of wild species, mainly those native and threatened.
Accompany and strengthen the development of scientific research in the field of population genetics of endangered species.
Transfer and develop reproductive biotechnologies applied to the conservation of threatened wildlife.
Train students, professionals and researchers in the use of reproductive biotechnologies applied to the conservation of wildlife.
Deepen and generate new inter-institutional relationships with both public and private organizations in the area of science and education, in order to strengthen the lines of research carried out within the framework of reproductive biotechnology and Ecoparque´s genetic resources bank.
