Our regions are characterised by their healthy food products (we have the largest area of organic almonds grown on dry land in the world and the excellent Segureño lamb with Protected Geographical Indication), hospitable people and an impressive natural, historical-artistic, ethnographic and gastronomic heritage, but also degraded soils and a significant drought, so we have to take care of the soil and water as the basis of our life.

The AlVelAl initiative is named after the three regions in Granada and Almeria, founders of this movement: Altiplano de Granada, Los Vélez and Alto Almanzora. Subsequently the Northwest of Murcia and the Comarca of Guadix have joined this effort.

A territory known worldwide for being a high quality rain-fed almond producing area, with more than 100,000 hectares of rain-fed almond trees, of which 45,000 are organically grown.

The AlVelAl Association was created with a commitment to positive change in a cohesive territory, uniting the regions of the Altiplano Estepario, but also creating synergies with people and institutions located in neighbouring regions with similar characteristics in Almeria, Granada and Murcia.

Nuestras comarcas se caracterizan por sus productos alimenticios sanos (tenemos la mayor superficie de almendra ecológica cultivada en secano del mundo y el excelente cordero segureño con Indicación Geográfica Protegida), gente hospitalaria y un impresionante patrimonio natural, histórico-artístico, etnográfico y gastronómico, pero también suelos degradados y una importante sequía, por lo que enemos que cuidar los suelos y el agua como base de nuestra vida.

La iniciativa AlVelAl es nombrada así por las tres comarcas en Granada y Almería, fundadoras de este movimiento: Altiplano de Granada, Los Vélez y Alto Almanzora. Posteriormente el Noroeste de Murcia y la Comarca de Guadix se han unido a este esfuerzo.

Un territorio mundialmente conocido por ser una zona productora de almendra de secano de alta calidad, contando con más de 100.000 hectáreas de almendro de secano, de las cuales 45.000 son cultivo ecológico.

La Asociación AlVelAl nace apostando por un cambio positivo en un territorio cohesionado, uniendo las comarcas del Altiplano Estepario, pero creando también sinergias con personas e instituciones ubicadas en comarcas vecinas de características parecidas en Almería, Granada y Murcia.
