Project
La Tigra Watershed Conservation Project

The La Tigra Watershed Conservation project aims to restore degraded land primarily through afforestation with native species. Deforestation in the region has been occurring for some time as a result of forest fires and pine beetle outbreaks affecting large extensions of area. EP Carbon identified a baseline scenario of continuous land disturbance leading to the persistence of non-forest areas and the continuous degradation of the remaining forest areas. To prevent continued land use change and restore native forests, the project proponent proposes prevention, conservation, and forest monitoring strategies. These include site preparation activities, a seed selection program, fertilization, fire and pest control, community involvement in cooperative activities for sustainable agricultural practices, domestic fuel combustion alternatives, training, and workshops to raise awareness of ecosystem conservation. The proponent Ecoforests considers the NGO AMITIGRA, which has worked in the LTNP area for years in ecosystem conservation projects, as a stakeholder with extensive experience and relationships with the community and partner institutions.
