The landscape in Nan province in northern Thailand shows degradation due to unsustainable farming practices in the past three decades and an unprecedented demand for cash crops in the last decade, replacing natural forests. Partnering with RECOFTC and with the Tree4All initiative, we have developed an innovative finance mobilization mechanism for planning and managing multipurpose trees in Nan and alternative income streams for local communities are developed. To date, more than 100 farmers have joined and roughly 10,000 trees have been planted. The established community led tree nursery provides seedlings, and an online portal allows monitoring of the trees planted.
