Mwenji Primary Greenery Project

The Mwenji Primary School Regreening School Grounds Project aims to transform the school grounds into a thriving green space while fostering environmental stewardship among students. This initiative is led by Together4trees Kenya CBO, collaborating with local environmental organizations, teachers, and the community, seeks to address soil erosion, improve the school’s microclimate, and enhance biodiversity.
Over the course of the project, Together4trees Kenya team, students, staff, and volunteers have already planted 507 indigenous and fruit-bearing trees around the school compound. These trees have been selected for their ecological benefits, including soil stabilization and shade provision. In addition to tree planting, the project introduces vegetable gardens, with the aim of improving food security and nutrition for the school community. The organization holds environmental workshops to educate students and teachers on tree care, sustainable gardening techniques, and the importance of environmental conservation, creating eco-clubs emphasizing that every student to adopt 5 trees in the school to enhance tree care till maturity stage.
These sessions foster a sense of responsibility and ownership among participants, particularly the students encouraging a long-term success of the initiative.
The project is still in continuation as Together4trees Kenya organization regularly carries out monitoring for the already planted trees, as it seeks more funding to realize the targeted goal of planting 2093 more trees is reached to ensure the project is impactful and sustainable overtime.
