Project
Wild Connection - Protecting biodiversity through forest conservation and connectivity

Our project's core objective is the acquisition of preserved land in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest to safeguard unprotected and endangered ecosystems, helping to create crucial connectivity between three fully protected public areas – National and State parks.
The Atlantic Rainforest is a global biodiversity hotspot, and our focus is on conserving one of its last well-preserved remnants: a Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) and a priority site for the Alliance for Zero Extinction (AZE). These areas encompass both primary and secondary native forests, housing endemic species of plants and animals, some of which are classified as Vulnerable (VU), Endangered (EN), or Critically Endangered (CR) by IUCN assessments.
Upon acquisition, these lands will transform into Private Reserves of Natural Heritage (RPPNs), recognized by Brazilian environmental law. Rigorous management plans will guide their stewardship, prioritizing environmental education, scientific research, and sustainable ecological tourism — the sole sanctioned activities within these private conservation areas.
Located in the Serra da Bocaina region, between Brazil's largest cities, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, these privately owned, currently unprotected areas face mounting threats from urban development, road construction, real estate speculation, and unregulated tourism.
We seek partners who share our commitment to preserving critical biodiversity hotspots and possess the financial capacity to support land acquisition and reserve establishment.
Instituto Biosfera - IBIOS will oversee ongoing management, ensuring the fulfilment of each reserve's comprehensive management plan.
