Summary of engagement
Kimberly-Clark and WWF are collaborating to advance efforts to support historically under-served family forest owners in the Southeastern United States through support for the Mobile Basin Heirs’ Property Support initiative, launched and implemented by the Center for Heirs’ Property Preservation and the Mississippi Center for Justice. The forests of the basin are critically important for the resilience of both biodiversity and people in the region to climate change. Yet these forests are at risk for fragmentation and conversion due to the prevalence and vulnerability of heirs’ property owners. The initiative provides a combination of legal services, information, and access to financial and forestry resources to help Mississippians resolve land title issues that disproportionately affect Black families and often lead to loss of property, wealth, and forest resources. Securing heirs' property helps families build generational wealth and promotes productive, sustainably managed forests in watersheds dependent on forest cover.
