Achieving Fairtrade-certified organic cacao and copoazu agroforestry production

In Peru, there are no national guidelines for deforestation-free cocoa production, which adds to weak supply-traceability and creating gaps in regulatory compliance, e.g. with the European Union. This makes certifications a great method to promote good practices that can respond to the need for regulation in terms of sustainability.

Through their engagement with Forests Forward, COOPSSUR aims to improve its sustainable cocoa and copoazu practices to promote responsible forest management, restore degraded forest ecosystems and protect the forest resources and biodiversity of Madre de Dios.

To achieve this, COOPSSUR will renew its organic certification and work to obtain Fairtrade certification, demonstrating its commitment to developing responsible practices with the environment and local communities.
