Key Initiatives:

New Growth & CSRC: Building a Scalable Community Reforestation Model (2026)

New Growth is working in close partnership with the Centre for Social Research and Consultancy (CSRC) to develop a resilient, scalable model for community-led reforestation and rural livelihoods across Nepal. From 2026, this partnership is moving beyond individual projects to build a joined-up system that combines community reforestation, fruit and nut tree donations, cash crop support, and farmer training into a single, transferable approach that can grow regionally.

At the heart of the model is the idea of “pass the gift”. Communities receive fruit and nut trees, cash crops, and practical training through cooperatives and community forest groups. As orchards establish and skills deepen, these same communities are supported to produce planting material, mentor neighbouring villages, and share knowledge locally. This ensures that benefits do not stop with one village but are passed on, strengthening food security, income generation, and environmental stewardship across wider areas.

Together, New Growth and CSRC are aligning reforestation with real livelihood outcomes. Community forests are restored using native species to protect land, water, and biodiversity, while household agroforestry and cash crops provide long-term economic stability. Training, cooperative governance, and land-use agreements ensure that farmers retain ownership, dignity, and decision-making power. By integrating ecology, food systems, and community leadership, the partnership is laying the foundations for self-sustaining reforestation communities that can adapt to climate pressures and support future generations.
