Dinkwenyana Water Smart project

The overarching aim of the project is to support the development of economic opportunities for local people as part of an inclusive green economy. This will be achieved by supporting climate smart agriculture (agroecology), sustainable rangeland management and water stewardship. The project objective is achieved by developing a Conservation Agreement that creates the enabling framework and guides the implementation of the project, climate smart agriculture projects to promote long term social and ecological benefits. Sustainable rangeland management project with cattle owners to promote long term social and ecological benefits. The project comprises of four main result areas, namely in components: Conservation agreement, Agroecology, Rangeland Management & Financial instruments. Result area 4 provides access to a simple savings and loan system that is managed by the group members, in a community that does not have access to formal financial services. This also unlocks a CAPEX fund that revolves amongst stewards, through a strong, bottom-up governance system. Implementation partners are Conservation South Africa and Hoedspruit Hub.
