Finca Tortuga with its gentle topography has three different teak vintages totaling 107 hectares, all planted on former pasture land. These are divided into smaller units by the many biodiversity corridors created by Arbofino. 2 hectares of balsa have also been planted. The conservation areas consist of 21 hectares of natural reforestation and 17 hectares of secondary forest.
The natural reforestation area was planted as biodiversity corridors and to expand the valuable conservation zone along the river. Most of this land could also have been used for teak, but at Arbofino we want to make sure that nature gets the space it needs to allow biodiversity to flourish and to ensure habitat connectivity.
Meaning Tortuga: The name comes from the South American snapping turtle, which can also be found on Finca Tortuga. This mostly nocturnal turtle spends most of its time in shallow water.
