Project
Digitising an Irish Artisanal Fishery System

The Irish Islands Marine Resource Organisation ("IIMRO") represents Irish island communities in addressing the numerous challenges facing their fishing livelihoods. The IIMRO-ABALOBI project, supported by Rethink Ireland's Innovate Together Fund, tackles the market collapse for small-scale fishers caused by COVID-19 by using technology to make fully traceable, sustainably caught seafood from Irish island communities available directly to consumers. ABALOBI technology was configured and deployed on two Irish islands, Inishbofin and Arranmore. MARKETPLACE trials were conducted to increase market access for local fishers while advancing traceability. A key outcome of this project is to assess the applicability and scalability of these technologies in Ireland.
