SIG is a Swiss-based global packaging solutions provider operating in more than 100 countries. SIG provides a range of packs, filling machines and solutions for packaging factories and liquid food products. As a consumer and producer of forest fiber based materials, SIG sources FSC-certified materials as part of its responsible sourcing¹ approach. In 2020, SIG set a new Forest commitment, which included supporting activities aimed at the creation, restoration, protection, or improved management of forests.
¹ Responsible sourcing is the practical implementation of policies, systems and procedures such as due diligence, traceability and monitoring, in order to verify the conformity of any raw materials or products purchased, used and traded, with environmental and human rights requirements. Within the forest industry, the aim of responsible sourcing is to ensure that all products originate from responsible forest management. Requirements include the exclusion from value chains of all illegally harvested and/or traded wood, exclusion of wood harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights, exclusion of wood harvested in forests in which high conservation values (HCVs) are threatened by management activities and the exclusion wood harvested in forests being converted to plantations or non-forest use.
