The Atlantic Forest, which extends along Brazil’s coast and inland to Paraguay and Argentina, is one of the most important—yet threatened—ecosystems in the world. It’s a biodiversity hot spot containing nearly 7% of the world’s plant and animal species. It’s also essential to people, providing water for 60% of Brazil’s population. Conservation and restoration of this forest is imperative to Brazil meeting its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement.
With support from P&G, WWF will develop a Forest Landscape Restoration planning and designing for Aracruz, Santa Maria do Doce River, and North Espírito Santo Landscapes in Espírito Santo State, Brazil. To accomplish this goal, WWF will collaborate and partner with local stakeholders to develop and strengthen restoration plans, identify restoration opportunities, and strengthen institutional arrangements to scale up forest restoration. Besides, WWF will define monitoring and impact assessment methodologies, share lessons learned and investment opportunities for landscape forest restoration. P&G’s financial investment in this region will also provide continued funding for Forest Landscape Restoration implementation, aligned with P&G's NCS commitment.
